Week 23 – Matte Painting Part 01 – Matchmove
The basic concept of matchmove remains the same as what I posted last term. For matte painting, matchmoving preparation is essential. Here’s a checklist to help with preparation:
- Check the camera and lens information to undistort the footage using the LensDistortion node. If the footage is filmed by yourself, search for the information based on the camera and lens you used.

- Ensure that moving objects (such as people, cars, trains, etc.), lens flares, and the sky (even if it’s clear, try masking it to reduce malfunctions) are rotoed before analyzing the footage using the CameraTracker node. Afterward, connect the Roto node to the Mask input.
You can position Card geometry using the Axis node (create an axis: select the solver, right-click, and choose create axis). Create a Card and a TransformGeo node, then connect the Axis node to the axis input of the TransformGeo node.
