EP – Preparation

Before starting the 3D work, I conducted a simple test to check if the green screen worked well. For this, I removed markers from the green screen after tracking them. As the phone moved and the hand passed above it, removing the markers was more difficult than I expected. Fortunately, when I applied the DespillMadness gizmo, I was able to remove the green not only from the monitors but also from the reflections. I will replace the screen on both monitors later.

I added an electric effect to the character’s ears and tail, and added an additional, thinner effect to the limbs to make it look richer. It worked well, but I need to consider that when I import it into other scenes, the effect could appear smaller depending on the scene’s scale. In that case, I will need to adjust the scene’s size.

To begin blocking animation, I created a 3D scene in Nuke using CameraTracker. After creating the scenes, I transferred them into Maya. Based on the point clouds (locators), I modeled basic shapes from the video because some objects in the scenes need to reflect the character’s electrical effect. I encountered an issue where, after setting the sensor size and focal length for the CameraTracker and transferring the scene into Maya, the locators and footage didn’t match. I thought this was due to lens distortion, so I exported the undistorted footage, but it still didn’t match. When I reset the knob to default and tested again, it worked well. I still haven’t found what the problem was.
Anyway, all the preparations for blocking animation are now complete. I’ll start animating in Maya next week.
