Motion Capture Workshop

Attached beanie on the head

In the first Mocap workshop, I had an opportunity to experience Rokoko AI Mocap on their website. Using webcam, the system generated my motion after analyzing the recording. Each student experimented with different motions; I recorded a data set of myself turning three times. Since this motion was relatively simple and clear, the data was quite accurate. When I opened the file, I could see the motion applied to a mannequin. Manos encouraged us to experiment with our files, so I tried to transfer the motion data to another model. However, since we hadn’t learned how to do this yet, I just added a beanie to the mannequin using bind skin.

In the second session, one of the students volunteered to act while wearing the Rokoko suit. With about 16 cameras capturing the motion, all the students in the angle had to hide any reflective objects to ensure accurate data capture. Some students who needed motion capture data for their personal projects directed their scenes. Although I didn’t need mocap data for my project, I could observe the process. The data from the mocap suit appeared much more accurate than the AI Mocap data. If possible, I would like to use this technology for future projects.
