Composite Girl

The entire node

For this week’s homework, I continued to practice green screen techniques. The assignment involved compositing a green screen source with a girl whose hair is blowing against a forest background plate. Additionally, Gonzalo assigned us the task of adding snow from the background source onto the front of the girl. I applied similar techniques from the previous homework, but the complexity of the hair required experimenting with various keyer nodes to efficiently preserve the alpha for the hair.

I encountered a challenge with the girl’s hair. When I premultiplied the despilled plate using alpha, it resulted in a noticeable grey outline. Despite attempting to fix it with Grade nodes, the issue persisted. In the process, I utilized the Keymix node to merge the alpha with the despill plate, and this finally resolved the problem. After the fix, I extracted snow from the background using the Keyer (Luminance key) and merged it over the girl plate.

Here is the result of my work. It provided an excellent opportunity to review and practice various green screen techniques.
