Collaborative unit: week 01 – Discussion
I could join a group for MIDA collaborative unit project. Firstly, we had a discussion to choose our project’s concept. It’s the first time I collaborate with students in other course and unfamiliar concept, so I believe I could learn a lot of valuable things from this project.
Custom brief: Tomorrow’s Plant
Main idea: In 2022, AI had a huge impact on how we live. We started thinking: What if AI could create nature? What would the plants based on AI’s prediction look like? We’re exploring using materials from AI and making plants move with biological motion or simulations. We formed an experimental lab with a theme to make it more realistic and immersive for the topics. We’re not just playing around in the lab; we want everyone to join us. Using Mixed Reality (MR), people can interact with and watch future plants grow in virtual reality. We’re curious about how these plants could live alongside humans, especially in modern cities.
Goal
- For concept, our goal is to explore the future of nature and imagine what it might become. We aim to spark human imagination by presenting possibilities for what plants could look like when produced based on AI’s prediction.
- In practical learning, we’re delving into new skills such as mixing materials for objects, incorporating visual effects for stimulating plants’ movement and using Mixed Reality to create interactive and immersive user experiences with future plants in daily life.
Technique - 3D Animation: Incorporate 3D animation and creative mixed materials to study plant and flower movements. Enhance the experience with visual effects to simulate the dynamic nature of movement. (Maya, C4D, UE)
- We will use MR to visualize future plant concepts, incorporating interactive sessions for growing, touching, watering, and observation. (Unity)
- Cross-discipline Collaboration: Collaborate across disciplines, merging diverse skills within projects and solving problems collectively.
- For the final video post-production, we will use AE or PR.
Final Outcome - Music Video, Create a demo music video expressing the concept of future nature and its visualization in MR.
- User Experience in MR: Enable users to immerse themselves in diverse environments through Mixed Reality, facilitating interactive encounters with plants.
- Generate dynamic digital posters conveying the project’s details, with the possibility of rendering offline motion posters if time allows.

Meeting brief: Week 01
- Choose 3 key worlds/combine words to generate the AI plants
- Do the sketch – each ppl 3 plants (specify the shape and texture and scenes)
- Think more about how to present plants on MR and concepts (where to put the plant and interactions)
- Meet up next week to discuss more about assigning work and schedule
