Week 3 – the basic interface of Nuke

There are many kinds of programs could edit videos with different type of compositing.
Layer base: After effects / Node base: Fusion, Nuke

Basic shortcut in Nuke
Nuke interface
  • Edit-Project settings: check the settings before start working
  • F: focus selected node
  • Middle mouse: move
  • Space: maximize selected workspace

  • Write(W): create a node which render outcome
  • O: create roto

Extension and preference
  • .nk: default extension of Nuke
  • .exr: native extension for nuke
  • (Nuke doesn’t work well with mp4/quicktime > it easily crahses)
  • C:\Users\23008828.nuke : preference of Nuke, can copy to another person

Why composition starts at frame 1001?
Sample VFX slate (VFX Slates & Overlays Guidelines – Netflix | Partner Help Center (netflixstudios.com))

To put VFX slates/overlays standard fields
slate includes vendor logo, name of show, shot types, date, etc.

How to fix?
Change starting frame : properties > frame(drop down) > start at > input frame number
Time bar > Global > play the video following the project frame setting
Retime(node) : change the sequence number of frames if needed
Framerange(node) : Decide the frame range to export as sequence

Fullframe processing : play the video on full frame
File name > videoname.####.exr = start from videoname.0000.exr
Press render button> can set the frame range(input, global, custom) to render
